1. Tell us a bit about the work you’ll be doing at CCMAR. 

I’ll be working for the project METALCHEMBIO. The recovery of valuable metals from highly contaminated metal wastes (acid mine drainage, metal plating effluents and leachates from automotive catalysts containing) will be explored using an innovative approach that combines liquid-liquid extraction and bio-recovery strategies based on the use of bacterial metabolites and/or plant extracts.

2. What were you doing before you joined us? 

In the last 5 years I have been working at CCMAR for the project BIOMETALDEMO with the following main aims: a) select metals-resistant Sulphate-Reducing Bacteria (SRB) and low-cost organic substrates to feed SRB bioreactors, b) optimize a continuous flow system using SRB to treat waters contaminated with metals, c) support the construction of a pilot plant and its running and evaluation.

3. What are your interests and hobbies when you’re not doing science? 

My hobbies have always been related to sports. In the sea I like sailing and surfing and in land I like to skateboard, bike (BMX) and motorcycle riding. On the other hand, I also like everything related to the repairs and maintenance of the equipment used in these sports.
