Our researcher Bárbara Horta e Costa was in Washington, DC representing CCMAR at the workshop “WCPA Marine workshop on the 2020 ocean roadmap to the CBD China COP and beyond”.

In this workshop, future goals and targets for more efficient marine conservation were discussed and will be presented and voted at the next conference of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) to be held in October 2020 in China. The objectives also include the implementation of efficient marine protected areas (MPAs).

The MPA guide, in which the researcher is highly involved, will also be discussed so that future targets include the need to report on the level of protection and status of implementation of the world's marine protected areas. This requires a common language for all MPAs to know what is being protected and in which way.

The researcher Bárbara Horta e Costa was the only Portuguese present at this workshop organized by the World Commission on Protected Areas (WDPA) of the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature), which took place in the beginning of February.
