Last February, CCMAR participated in the open day of the University of Algarve.

With the topic "Climate change and humans impact on the ocean" we have prepared some stands with different experiments and had the collaboration of our researchers. In a day full of science, those who visited the CCMAR had the opportunity to be in contact with the sea horses and discover what we do to protect them, to know more about the problem of microplastics, to observe under a microscope model organisms used in the laboratory, know the effect of the pH on the fish's olfaction and learn how salt-tolerant plants adapt to climate change.

We also presented a new project, ICHTHYS, which aims to improve the quality and food safety of fish and seafood, developing intelligent packaging and reducing food waste.

On this busy day, we received about 120 elementary and secondary students from several schools in the Algarve. With this initiative, the CCMAR intends to answer the doubts of the students and their families about our marine research centre and to show the work developed by the several research teams and master or PhD students.
