New on Board: Mario Gaitan
Tell us a bit about the work you are/will be doing at CCMAR
Due to the pandemic, travelling is becoming difficult. Introducing people to physical facilities in order to show the possibilities of these research infrastructures should happen as much as possible in a digital way. One of my tasks will be to develop a series of virtual tours so that possible clients/researchers will be introduced to the CCMAR facilities. This introduction may also serve as a showcase of potential research possibilities at CCMAR. Moreover, in order to prepare visitors to use the facilities in the best way possible (to prepare them and train them as much as possible prior to the visit), I will create a series of hands-on tutorials about the EMBRC facilities (equipment) at CCMAR.
What were you doing before you joined us?
In July 2020, I finished my master degree in Marine Biological Resources. Right after graduation, I started working as a project officer at Ghent University. My job was to collaborate in the development of online courses for the IMBRSea master program and to develop a multilingual thematic sub-portal of marinetraining.eu.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I enjoy spending time outside, going out with friends, cooking (normally for friends as I don’t enjoy so much cooking for myself), sunsets, nature and the ocean.
