Researchers want to improve the reproduction of 3 flatfish species
The BREEDFLAT project, funded by EEA Grants, aims to improve the reproductive capacity of 3 important flatfish species in aquaculture production in Portugal and Norway by improving broodstock nutrition.
Specific broodstock feed will be developed, taking into account the nutritional needs of each species and the efforts dedicated to gametogenesis to improve the reproductive and immunological traits of Senegalese sole, turbot and halibut progeny.
The launch meeting of the BREEDFLAT project took place on 28 January 2022 by zoom where the project coordinator, Elsa Cabrita, presented the objectives and the planning of the different tasks associated with BREDDFLAT.
All partners presented their teams and the involvement of the different workgroups. The main important aspects of the project were discussed and several meetings were scheduled to follow up on the project.
The consortium includes two Portuguese research teams, CCMAR (promoter) and CIIMAR, and the largest turbot producer, ACUINOVA. Donor parties, Nord University, Akvaplan-niva, with expertise in flatfish breeding, and the Sognaqua farm, will contribute their expertise on Atlantic halibut.
