Acylcarnitines (ACs) are the metabolic products of fatty acid oxidation and branched-chain amino acid metabolism. A precise and accurate targeted analysis is a highly challenging task due to low intracellular concentrations and high isomeric variability. Each isomeric and isobaric acylcarnitines are associated with a specific disorder that needs to be separated by liquid chromatography for the proper diagnosis. We target to develop a robust LC-MS/MS method for ACs including isomers and isobars.
