Industrial production of microalgae: ALGAFARM case study

Abstract
Algafarm is an industrial microalgae facility located in Pataias, Leiria. Since 2013 Algafarm produces Chlorella vulgaris for the food market. Recently, Algafarm implemented a new technology based on the fermentation to obtain high premium inoculum to enhance the scale up process. The company, the production process and the final products will be presented and discussed.

Joana Laranjeira Silva is graduated in Microbiology, Master in Biology and PhD in Biotechnology from the Catholic University of Portugal, Porto. Joana L Silva has been supervising several Master and PhD students and has been publishing several scientific papers with peer reviewing (h-index=14). In Algafarm Joana L Silva is responsible for the research and development department.
