Seminário: BECORV - Ecological bases for the sustainable management of meagre

Quarta, 13 Fevereiro, 2019
Local
Room 2.31 I Building 7 I Gambelas Campus

In this seminar, we’ll be talking about the BECORV project. Meagre (corvina) is an important resource for fishing communities from France to Mauritania. Growing concerns that it might be overexploited are consubstantiated by its spawning behaviour, possible population fragmentation, and fast historical collapses of similar species. We will use a multidisciplinary approach combining telemetry, genomics and modelling to map the spatial ecology and to explore questions of natal philopatry, adaptiveness, connectivity and potential impacts of climate change. This information will be key to assess current and future threats, and supply solid management guidelines for this species.

About our speaker:

David Abecasis is a researcher at CCMAR/University of the Algarve. He obtained his PhD in 2013 from the University of the Algarve. His main area of interest the spatial ecology of marine fishes, particularly using biotelemetry techniques, and its application to the management and conservation of marine resources.
