WELFISH - Establishment of farmed fish welfare biomarkers; a multi-omics approach

Wednesday, March 6, 2019
at
Room 2.31 I Building 7 I Gambelas Campus

The topic of this seminar is the reliability of currently used fish welfare biomarkers and our proposal to discover, validate and set up new ones. As aquaculture grows, it becomes even more important to move towards sustainable farming with regard to fish welfare. Considering the lack of specific and reliable molecular indicators of fish welfare, this work integrates multiple omics platforms to approach this issue, offering the possibility to a better understanding of the complete flow of information in the fish biological system.

About our speaker:

Cláudia Magalhães holds master’s degree in Aquaculture and Fisheries by the University of Algarve. She is now a PhD student at CCMAR/UAlg, with main expertise in proteomics applied to aquaculture, working in an integrative approach to farmed fish welfare comprising multiple omics technologies.
