CCMAR researcher participates in the Blue Azores Expedition documentary

Our researcher, David Abecasis, participated in the researchers/divers team of the recent documentary “Exploring and working to protect the Azores underwater ecosystem” from National Geographic Society, which was premiered on November 22nd. Together with the documentary, a report of the results of the expedition was also released and is available HERE.

It was in 2018, that David joined the GAMPA (Group of Marine Protected Areas of Azores) team of Blue Azores Expedition. You can read the CCMAR news HERE that came out at the time.

The Blue Azores Programme aims to contribute to the Azores becoming a model economy for a blue society where the natural environment is protected, valued and promoted.

Two scientific expeditions were organized, one in 2016 to the eastern group and another in 2018 to the central and western groups. The results of these expeditions, together with information from the current research in the Azores, show a very diverse marine ecosystem, which is under a lot of pressure from numerous human threats.
