CCMAR was specially selected to participate in the European Knowledge Hub about Food and Nutrition Security

CCMAR was one of the portuguese institutions selected for a European Knowledge Hub (KH) about Food and Nutrition Security. The aim of this KH is to characterize the impact of climate change on the production and characteristics of traditional food and propose adaptation strategies and measures capable of ensuring the supply of a nutritionally complete and safe food.

The presence of CCMAR was especially important, since most participating institutions aren’t specifically focused on maritime food, which is considered one of the strategies pointed out as the most promising. In addition, CCMAR is the only institution of the KH with experience in production and nutrition of micro and macroalgae.

Our researchers Luísa Barreira (coordinator), João Varela, Leonardo Mata and Rui Santos participated in this action. The first meeting was held last June 7, in Brussels. Several members of various institutions from Italy, Norway, Germany, France, Latvia and Spain were also present.

At this meeting, the coordinators were elected and the working groups (Production, Nutrition, Consume and Public Health) were set up. Currently, KH is preparing an application to finance its actions which should be submitted by September 5 to SEC (Scientific Evaluation Comitte).
