Joint Research Centre of the European Commission highlights CCMAR projects
The World Water Day (March 22) celebrates the importance of water for life on Earth and all of us. To celebrate this valuable resource, the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission has organised the "Water for a whole week " - an online event that highlights the central role of water in several of the UN Sustainable Development Goals proposed by the United Nations for 2030. And since we are in the middle of the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the event focuses on work carried out by Portuguese institutions and researchers, including CCMAR.
The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's science which employs scientists to carry out research to provide independent scientific advice and support to EU policy. This online event will showcase the work of our researchers and how it contributes to two of the goals set by the United Nations.
On March 25th, dedicated to goal 13 "Climate Action", a virtual project showcase is prepared, in which you can learn about our research project ODORACID. This project focuses on how climate change influences the oceans and marine life, in particular the olfaction of fish.
On March 26th, dedicated to goal 14 "Life Below Water", the Joint Research Centre will highlight several works carried out by CCMAR researchers on marine protected areas and their role in marine conservation. On this day you will be able to see films about our work on the restoration of marine habitats, such as seagrass meadows or gorgonian gardens, on monitoring work using telemetry or fishing, and also about the contribution of our researchers for better management of marine protected areas.
