New on Board: Alexandra Warkentin
Tell us a bit about the work you’ll be doing at CCMAR.
I am going to work with Gongolaria barbata. This seaweed forms important marine forests in the sea, which are very sensitive to water quality and anthropogenic stressors. I will be comparing the levels of genetic diversity between different populations, to identify potential genetic signatures of population fragmentation, founder effects and contrasting mating systems.
What were you doing before you joined us?
I am currently finishing my last semester of the Bachelor of Science in Aquatic Biology. To complete it, I am going to do my bachelor project and thesis with the research group of FORESCUE.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I find joy in spending my time in nature, expressing my creativity through painting, letting loose with some dancing, and finding inner peace through the practice of yoga. Other than that, I like to be adventurous and to learn a lot of new stuff, like scuba diving or skydiving!
