New on Board: Oswin Scheer
Tell us a bit about the work you are/will be doing at CCMAR.
As of April, I will be studying fluxes of CO2 and CH4 in salt marshes and seagrass meadows in Ria Formosa, and linking this to bacterial communities in the sediment. I will be working at the ALGAE group under the supervision of Ana Alexandre.
What were you doing before you joined us?
I just finished a six-month internship at my local university in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. I studied the aquatic mosquito fern (Azolla fuliciloides) and its potential as a water purifier in buffer zones. At the moment I am also working on a review paper on methane transport in freshwater macrophytes.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love being outdoors, hiking, collecting mushrooms and other edible plants and doing sports (mainly basketball and skateboarding). While in Faro I intend to pick up wave surfing a bit more. I also love playing board games with large groups and drinking the occasional glass of beer or wine along the way.
