Tell us a bit about the work you are/will be doing at CCMAR. 
I will be involved in the European Project CRYO-FISH, which aims to progress on the basic knowledge of the reproductive biology of endemic freshwater ichthyofauna of the Iberian Peninsula, assessing for the first-time gamete quality throughout the breeding season. In addition, new techniques for gamete assay and protocols for cryopreservation will the purpose of creating a genetic resource bank for biodiversity preservation.

What were you doing before you joined us? 
I have been working for many years in the Aquaculture and Biodiversity Group in the UPV (Spain) carrying out several projects focused on topics such as fish reproduction, gamete quality and cryobiology in different aquaculture and threatened fish species. I have also enjoyed long trained periods in several excellent research centres such as the Misaki Marini Biological Station (Japan), the Department of Animal and Plants Sciences (UK) and in Embrapa Coastal Tablelands (Brazil).

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? 
Free time is dedicated almost exclusively to enjoying nature and biodiversity. I love fish but outside of work I love to see birds (I am a birdwatcher at heart). I love going to do walks on the forests, wetlands, beaches, seas (snorkelling) and enjoying the plants, birds, amphibians, fish, reptiles, and mammals (or their footprints) that live there. Of course, after the walk, I love to cool off with a cold beer!!
