New MSc student: Mike Lenstra
Tell us a bit about the work you are/will be doing at CCMAR.
I will be studying the utilization of the microbiome in seagrass restoration. Specifically focusing on which micro-organisms can have a positive effect on the growth of seagrasses when incorporated into the microbiome.
What were you doing before you joined us?
I am a second-year master's student from the University of Amsterdam, where I study Freshwater and Marine Biology. I recently finished my first research project about benthic cyanobacterial mats on Caribbean coral reefs in Curaçao. The project focused on the variety of mat colours and whether there was a link between mat colour, pigment content and community composition.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I enjoy spending time outside, while hiking, biking or reading a book. I love to listen to music, dance and experiment with fashion. Also, I like to join social activities and have drinks with friends.
