Researchers visit the first component of Cadiz Station after one month of autonomous activity
After a month of autonomous activity, our researchers went to visit the first component of the Cadiz Station of the EMSO-PT project to verify the operationality of the equipment. This visit was carried out by our researchers Paulo Relvas and Carlos Sousa together with Mar Ilimitado, and a team of two divers from the Centre for Marine and Environmental Research (CIMA-UAlg).
The researchers verified that the profiler appeared to behave as expected, and four regular profiles of approximately fifteen minutes each could be observed, indicating that the mooring fulfils the predicted objectives. It was also necessary to repair the radar reflector installed on the surface buoy. The meteo-oceanographic conditions were favourable for this ten nautical mile trip, which allowed a safe dive.
At the end of the dive, the diving team was welcomed by a group of curious dolphins.
The EMSO-PT/CCMAR infrastructure will remain an autonomous operation until the end of September 2021, when the data will be collected and a second installation will be prepared.
