Tell us a bit about the work you’ll be doing at CCMAR.

My name is Carmen Navarro, I will work at the Aquaculture Research Group (CCMAR) as Postdoc researcher at PROLAR project (FCT). The aim of this project is to understand the basic physiological and metabolic mechanisms underlying early nutritional programming in farmed fish, looking to incorporate long-term digestive improvement through promoting intestinal maturation and functionality in the larval stages.

What were you doing before you joined us?

I have a master degree in Aquaculture and Fisheries, held at the University of Cádiz, and a degree in Biology, held at the University of Seville (both in Spain). I made my doctoral thesis in the field of marine larval fish nutrition between ICMAN-CSIC (Cádiz) and CCMAR. My background focuses on fish larvae feeding from a physiologic perspective, getting knowledge on the mechanisms underlying the overall digestive process from the most direct phase, like digestive enzyme activities, to the neuroendocrine control.

What are your interests and hobbies when you’re not doing science?

During my free time, I like to enjoy outdoor activities with friends and family. I also like to travel and know new places and their history.
