With a broad background on environmental and marine sciences, my research is aimed to understand anthropogenic impacts on the natural environment, and looking for mitigation strategies towards these stressors. During my PhD, carried out at ICM-CSIC (Barcelona, Spain), I studied the impact of atmospheric fallout on coastal microbial communities. Since March 2019, after successfully obtaining a postdoctoral fellowship from the FCT (Stimulus of Scientific Employment, Individual Support 2017 Call), I have focused my interest on the environmental impacts of microplastic pollution. I develop my research at CCMAR, following two main research lines (i) assessing microplastic pollution in different environments and (ii) looking for microorganisms with potential to biodegrade microplastics.
I have published 10 articles in high impact journals, 6 of which I am the first and/or corresponding author. I also authorship two conference proceedings and two book chapters. I have peer-reviewed 8 manuscripts for recognized scientific journals. I have disseminated my research at several scientific meetings, including invited seminars at international institutions and oral presentations in 10 international and 1 national conferences, two of them as invited speaker. I have (co-) supervised the experimental work of >10 BSc and MSc students, and the final projects of 5 master students from international master programmes. Further, I am external advisor of a master student at University of Philippines. Since September 2023, I am co-supervisor of a PhD student at University of Zaragoza. I have reviewed the memoire of 3 master theses, and participated as member of the evaluation panel of 3 master and 1 PhD thesis.
