My main research areas are marine Biology and Ecology. I developed research on several areas such as biology and ecology of marine and lagoonal systems; taxonomy and ecology of benthic invertebrates; ecological modelling; numeric ecology; trophic food web ecology; and ecological indicators under the Water Framework Directive.

My research has been developed essentially about Ria Formosa although I also have studied or supervised research work in other lagoonal systems in the Algarve, such as Ria de Alvor, Lagoa dos Salgados and Lagoa do Almargem. I have also collaborated on Mira, Sado and Mondego estuaries research studies.
