Catarina C. Santos is a Doctoral researcher at IPMA/CCMAR. Catarina graduated in Biology (2015) and has a MSc in Marine Ecology (2017). In 2017 she was granted a research fellowship to study biological and ecological aspects of the shortfin mako shark. Since then, she has been working with fishery-related data of highly migratory species, including pelagic sharks and tunas. She has been mostly involved in studying ecology, particularly habitat use and migratory movements of pelagic sharks, and fisheries impacts on pelagic species. Catarina has participated in laboratory studies for estimation of biological parameters for age and growth studies and demographic analyses. She has also worked with population structure and dynamics. In 2018 she was granted a PhD fellowship to study biological and ecological aspects of pelagic shark species caught in pelagic longline fisheries, in order to provide a set of conservation and alternative management measures aiming their conservation and sustainability of fisheries in the Atlantic.
