Novo biomarcador ajuda a detetar doenças cardiovasculares em doentes renais

Um grupo de investigadores do Centro de Ciências do Mar (CCMAR), em parceria com o Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve e em conjunto com a GenoGla Diagnostics, desenvolveu um novo teste diagnóstico utilizando um biomarcador de calcificação vascular presente no sangue. Este teste de uso fácil e resposta rápida será de grande utilidade no estudo da doença cardiovascular.

In the context of Science for Business, CCMAR received a delegation from Portugal Ventures on 7th of December, 2018.

In this event, the role of algae producing companies, new microalgae production strategies developed by LNEG, the concept of biorefinery of algal biomass and two round tables was presented.

“Cientificamente provável” is an outreach project that takes science into schools. This is the second year that the project is running with such a success that we can't accept much more applications.

Twelve young students from the high school participate in the internships that CCMAR offers in this year's edition, carried out by the CCVIVA - National Agency for Scientific Culture.

Our researchers are seeking collaborations for a Special Issue in the area of vitamin K and Vitamin K-Dependent proteins (VKDPs) in health and disease.

The Algae4IBD project, with CCMAR as a partner, aims to identify compounds from algae that are effective against inflammatory Bowel Disease and developing them into functional foods and new medication.

Citizens can now help our researchers identify these seaweeds, which can be invasive algae species with negative impacts

This event promoted the discussion of science and new ideas for projects between lectures, plenaries, talks, poster sessions and social events.

For the second year, researchers from CCMAR at the University of the Algarve are appealing to citizens to help them identify large accumulations of algae appearing in the ocean or on beaches along the Portuguese coast.
