Especialistas do CCMAR vão otimizar produção e utilização de microalgas

O projeto chama-se ALGARED+ e o Centro de Ciências do Mar (CCMAR) é um dos membros do consórcio luso-espanhol de nove instituições que é responsável pelo projeto, que faz parte do Programa (POCTEP) Cooperação Transfronteiriça Espanha-Portugal.

Our researchers participated in the European Knowledge Hub about Food and Nutrition, where CCMAR is the only institution with experience in production and nutrition of micro and macroalgae.

In this event, the role of algae producing companies, new microalgae production strategies developed by LNEG, the concept of biorefinery of algal biomass and two round tables was presented.

Between the 6^th and 18^th of December 9 students of the Master in Marine Biology will defend their thesis.

During the three days of the congress, our researchers made several oral presentations and presented their posters.

Twelve young students from the high school participate in the internships that CCMAR offers in this year's edition, carried out by the CCVIVA - National Agency for Scientific Culture.

The Algae4IBD project, with CCMAR as a partner, aims to identify compounds from algae that are effective against inflammatory Bowel Disease and developing them into functional foods and new medication.

Our researchers have found that the use of LED lighting in the production of microalgae increases the growth of their biomass, especially during the night.
